The exercise concentrates on
time management skills. The assignment consists of (1) a lecture on
Effective learning and study skills, (2) reading the article Manage your energy, not your time” (https://hbr.org/2007/10/manage-your-energy-not-your-time) (3) following how you plan and use your time during a period of three weeks and (4) writing a report of your observations.
Instructions for completing the assignment:
2. At the beginning of each week, complete a new weekly plan (doc or xlsx).
- Name 5-7 goals
- Divide the goals into weekly tasks. You can use the SMART-tool for this (Specific-Measurable-Attainable-Realistic-Time bound).
- Schedule the tasks/actions in your weekly schedule and also include the main goals of the day.
- You can find detailed instructions for making the weekly plan and setting goals also from the Self-study material on time management (ABC of time management and Well planned is
half done).
- What went well? What tasks did you managed to complete? (you can use green colour to mark these)
- What didn't go as you planned? (you can use red colour to mark these)
- What challenges did you encountered as you were trying to follow your plan?
- Where did your time actually go, if it was not spent as planned? Did you change your plans without noticing it or on purpose?
- Was your plan realistic?
- What should you change in your time management?
- What did you learn from this exercise?
- How will you take into account what you learned the next time you are planning a schedule?
- How were you able to combine studies, free time, work etc?
- Did your plan support your wellbeing, motivation and concentration?
- Were your plans realistic and usable?
