TASK 2: CONCEPT (2 students from one field / group)
Completion requirements
Due: Tuesday, 12 October 2021, 9:00 AM
- The second task for architecture, art and landscape architecture students: programmatic and spatial concept; the scope can be decided by the student themselves (use, building / block / area, extents)
- Others make a more detailed analysis of the political history of the project. Students become acquainted with the area to be designed as a meeting place for various social forces and a place of conflict in the urban space. The task of the students is to identify different political rationalities and the interests attached to them, on the basis of which social actors position themselves in the development and planning of the area. What perception of the city of Helsinki and the function of the city centre guides the planning of the area? Students will find out the history of the project and link it to the previous design history of the area. What kind of networks of actors have been formed? What has been decided on the project and when, by whom and after what discussion? How is the development of the Helsinki city center different now than before and different than elsewhere? Why is the city center of Helsinki a special construction site and design area? What makes it a politically unique design and building site?
