Concept map / mind map / paper outline for "introduction to concept X essay"

By now, you should have been assigned a topic for your group presentation in PHYS-A0140 course. This same topic is what you shall be exploring for the individual essay in the English course. The idea is that you will explore and learn about this topic by developing your essay, which should make the process of preparing the presentation in groups a bit easier. Naturally, at the same time, you are practicing the skill of academic writing in English.

In this assignment, it is time for your to explore your topic a bit further through a concept map / outline. You should find a few sources about your topic and try go over these sources to gain a broad sense of the phenomenon / topic in question.The next step is to develop your topic idea by creating a concept map /an outline (or a mind map).

Mindmaps can be done with Mindjet Mindmanager software. It is available free for every Aalto University student (download.aalto.fi) and can be used in PC and Mac environments. Mobile app is also available.Another suggestion:Lucidchart: https://www.lucidchart.com/pages/usecase/education

You may use any program you are familiar with for this or even draft it by hand using pen and paper. You can always take a picture of it for the upload. ) Please, submit it here in MyCourses as well in a readable format.

You can find some examples of concept maps made by some Master's level students (from another course, shared with permission). They are just to show what different concepts maps can look like when developing a topic further. Use this assignment to construct your own understanding of the topic and to map out areas that you also need to explore and learn about more.

If you'd rather create a paper outline, it can be a bulleted list type of an outline, listing the order of possible contents. You can also find attached a sample outline, which is made based on an earlier student's paper (reverse outline).
