LC-1310 - Academic Communication for MSc Students (o,w) H03, Lecture H03, 12.9.2022-5.12.2022

This assignment has two parts: (1)  attending the presentation practice session (5 points)  + (2) completing the self-evaluation (2 points) . Together these add to 7 points.

Here are some guideline for Powerpoint slides:

Work on the first version slides for your talk based on the outline. You can use one of the templates provided, if you wish. Aalto template. You can design your slides whichever way you wish. You will get feedback on them and how they work with your presentation in the practice session.

Remember the golden rules for slide design discussed in class:

- avoid having too much text: 6X6 rule is a good framework to keep in mind (avoid having more than six words per line and six bullets per slide)

- use keywords instead of full sentences

- use images or figures when possible

- consider the overall amount of slides - for a 9-11 minute talk, maybe 9-11 slides should be enough

- remember to also mark sources: usually the source can be mentioned on the slide itself in to ways:

1) mark the source just like you would in a text (parenthetical or numerical) and include a list of sources at the end of the slide show

2) mark the source in full form (some use a shortened form), use smaller font and put it on the bottom of the slide (perhaps a bit more common?)

2) Self-evaluation after the practice session

Please post a short 1-2 paragraph reflection on your experiences with the practice session and giving each other feedback,  which answers all the questions below:

1) How did the practice session go for you? Did it go as you expected?  Better?  Worse?

2)  What kind of feedback did you get?  What did you think of the feedback? 

3)  What did you learn by watching others present?

Based on this practice session, what are you top three goals for improvement for the final version?
