Krav för slutförande
soon we will start our course on Programming for Information Designers with D3.js. Here are few tasks for you before we get going.
- Read a small article on D3.js pros, cons, and how its compared to other visualisation tools:
https://visual.ly/blog/why-d3-js-is-so-great-for-data-visualization/
- If you tend to use your personal computer download/install code editor that would suit working with HTML code (my recommendation Visual Studio Code. Notepad++ for windows is also a good tool)
- Recreate Hello D3 example from here - https://bl.ocks.org/mbostock/1300016
Procedure:
1. Open text editor
2. paste a code
3. save file with extension .html
4. open file in any decent web browser
5. open Web Console (in Firefox Tools -> Web Developer -> Web Console; in Chrome Menu -> More Tools -> JavaScript Console)
6. find out what is the error why the example is not working
6. fix the error
- Select one of the D3 implemented visualisations from here https://github.com/d3/d3/wiki/Gallery (can be from other place as well)that you fancy, and describe in what paragraph what makes it good visualisation. Upload this paragraph with link to D3 visual to mycourses by end of January 7th.
See you on Tuesday
