Use this site (http://www.sunearthtools.com/dp/tools/pos_sun.php) to find out the sunrise and -set directions at your home. Try out different settings, such as drawing the shadows, or sun's path.

Try also different dates. In particular March 21th, Midsummer (22.6.), and Christmas (24.12.). Why these days, by the way? 

Is there anything in your neigbourhood that you could use as a giant sundial? Perhaps a flagpole, a high building, a tree? Look out of the window - you'll look like true Crocodile Dundee when your friend asks you the time, and you say you don't have a watch, but from the sun it looks like half past four.
