Participating in the thesis-related activities:

  • Participate in the Thesis Seminar sessions and thesis clinics organized by the Thesis Seminar course and/or programs/majors.

Working on Part 3
  • Work to complete your thesis and prepare the Part 3 presentation. Refer to the feedback you received from the Part 2 submission to finalize your thesis manuscript.
  • Work with your advisor, and, if/when needed, ask for support from the supervisor.
  • Focus on reviewing your findings from Part 2 and relating them to your topics, aims/research questions, and the theoretical framing and literature you reviewed in Part 1.
  • Finish writing the discussion, reflect on limitations, and outline avenues for further research.
  • Review the whole manuscript so that all parts fit together well.
  • DO NOT make major changes to your research approach, questions, theoretical framing, production, or findings at this point.

Plagiarism check
  • You MUST check your manuscript for plagiarism in TurnitIn and review the outcomes with your advisor.
  • If your advisor is not from Aalto University, you must review the Turnitin report with your supervisor.
  • You can use the self-check page or your advisor's or supervisor's thesis supervision page.
  • Coordinate with your advisor or supervisor where and how to complete this step.

Submit a full manuscript to your supervisor 1-2 weeks before Part 3 presentations

  • 1-2 weeks before the presentation date, send the full, almost-ready draft of your thesis to your supervisor.
  • This version should be nearly finished.
  • Agree with your supervisor how much in advance you need to send the full manuscript.

Part 3 presentations
  • At the Part 3 presentations, you present your thesis: your topic, theoretical background, methodology, production (if you had one), findings/results, and insights from the discussion.
  • The length of the presentation can very in each program.
  • During the presentation session, you will get some questions and feedback from the supervisor and other members of the audience.
  • After the presentation, you finalize your thesis according to the feedback. Your supervisor's feedback also includes whether the thesis is ready to be submitted or what conditions need to be met to receive permission to submit.

Getting permission to submit
  • At ARTS, you must receive permission from your supervisors to submit your thesis.
  • It is forbidden to submit without permission.
  • If you aim to submit in the end of July, you need to receive permission to submit before Midsummer/Juhannus (latest on 19.06.2025), before the faculty leaves for summer break.
