Contact the teacher and messages from the teacher
Teacher: Maurice Forget
I will read & reply to MyCourses messages (and emails) primarily on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Please mark any MyCourses messages (or emails) with LCA-1111 in the Subject field.
To send a message in MyCourses, click the speech bubble next to your name, top right-hand corner. Please double-check your Message notification preferences. Activate your notifications to receive MyCourses messages to your email (speech bubble settings). I will contact you primarily through this function (individual messages), through the feedback function in MyCourses (see Grades below; feedback on tasks), and “Announcements from the teacher” on the frontpage of our MyCourses space (group feedback and any information that should reach all of you).
During
the course, you will be submitting weekly assignments via MyCourses and receiving individual and/or group feedback from your teacher. Please make sure that you read this feedback. Submit all assignments via MyCourses, not via email.
Time Management.
In this course, you are welcome to set your own deadlines. However,
there is a last deadline that is the same for everyone on the course for each assignment. You are encouraged to submit the assignments before the
deadline. If you know that keeping deadlines (DLs) or starting early
enough on assignments is not your strength, please change the DLs to at least two days earlier so that you have that extra time, in case you need it. These DLs cannot be negotiated (unless illness with doctor’s certificate) and you are expected to complete all assignments and on time. Most deadlines will be on Monday mornings, however not all!
3 ECTs = 81 hrs in 6 weeks -> Please reserve about 13.5 hours a week for this course in your schedule.
The oral part accounts for approximately 1/3 of the workload, the textbook part for about 2/3, with individual variations to be expected.
Once Textbook assignment 1 (TA1) has been accepted by the teacher, you can continue working on the other TA assignments; you can even hand in early if this suits your own schedule better. Generally, however, I send out feedback to everyone at the same time.
Assignments
You can start with the OAs straight away and TA1 (i.e. once you have received a place on the course and the assignments have been opened). You should read (and take into account) the teacher feedback on TA1, OA2, and OA3 and the peer feedback on OA4b before submitting the following assignment/s unless otherwise advised during the course. Throughout the course, it is essential that you read both the group feedback and the individual feedback that you receive from your teacher. All assignments are mandatory.
Course schedule Recommendation from previous students: print this schedule and transfer the DLs to your personal calendar.
Some find the schedule useful, others are happy following the course as posted
week by week.
NB! You can work on many of the assignments in advance if you prefer a faster pace. If you need your ECTs by a specific date, please inform the teacher no later than on Monday 23 May.
Preliminary schedule: adding opening and closing dates for the Aalto Webropol course feedback survey to the Table below. If you notice inconsistencies, please let me know.
Note that a course week does not always correspond to a 7-day calendar week. When you read the Table, think of "week" as ending by the deadline. Therefore it also starts earlier so to speak.

*Calendar week
** Negotiate with your peer if this deadline is too tight for you and inform your teacher of the new deadline. Please take into account that both you and your peer need time to finalize your pitches for OA4c.
The course follows strict deadlines. If for any reason you cannot keep a deadline due to unforeseen circumstances, please notify the teacher at your earliest convenience (please avoid missing deadlines though, as this will mean losing activity points that go into your course grade). If you are ill and need to miss a deadline, please present a doctor's certificate.
How to find your way around in MyCourses
To see/hide the different sections in MyC, click on the orange square with white lines in the top left-hand corner.
To find assignments and materials, enter through the section menu Textbook project/Elevator Pitch or by the given week, found in the grey left-hand side menu.
For your convenience, the materials and assignments for the oral part and for the textbook part are gathered in separate sections. (Note checking only under "Assignments" "Forum" "Resources" in the right-hand corner below the banner will not show all materials/tasks relevant for each OA and TA in this course.)
To see feedback from the teacher, click on ‘Grades’ in the section menu. Some feedback is also provided e.g.,
via "Announcements from the teacher".
See also Assignments Overview, link here.
During the course, you earn points for the activities and for submitting on time (max 100 points). These translate directly to your final grade for the course:
Grading scale - Final course grade | |
Scale | |
5 | 93 -100 |
4 | 85 - 92 |
3 | 77 – 84 |
2 | 69 – 76 |
1 | 61 – 68 |
0 | 60 or less |
Track your points in MyC or in the Excel sheet posted on the frontpage "Assessment and grading; Optional: keep track of your points". For Assessment and receiving full points for an assignment, see information in the Assignments Overview section on the textbook project and on the Elevator pitch. Tip: Follow the assignment instructions and the examples and submit on time.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your teacher!
