Career Planning Exercises
My action plan
1) The working scenario: You can start by identifying alternative appealing scenarios. The working scenario is a way to forecast future and prepare for future A long-term view is hard to grasp, but if you imagine alternative learning and career paths, it is easier to have a clearer picture of what you have to learn to flourish in life and career. Having alternatives in life gives a sense of security.
Imagine a landscape with crossing paths. These paths are the appealing learning and career paths. Imagine every single path as far as is possible. Write about the details and turning points of the path. Then reflect the paths. Which knowledge and competences are you going to acquire? How can you make it happen by taking action of your own? Are the most appealing scenario and the most likely scenario substantially similar or different?
2) Reflect the paths you have written about. Choose the most appealing learning and career path and halve the time that it takes to make this vision to become reality. (If, e.g. you think it takes two years to make a vision come true, what are you going to have achieved or completed in one year? Write as tangibly as possible about the things you have accomplished in one year.) Halve the time as many times as it is necessary, until you will answer the question. “What are you going to do tomorrow and today?”
Write as imaginative, diversified, optimistic, self-assured, energetic and tangible action plan as you can!
This is what I am going to do to achieve my best possible future. You know, life doesn't consist of a strategic plan, but many surprises will probably occur en route. However, If I have a working plan, it helps me to make decisions at crossroad situations.
