Session #1 - What is sustainable entrepreneurship?
I personally think this is one of the most important classes you will have, and am excited you are part of it.
Session Overview
The goal of today's session is to get you thinking about exactly what sustainable entrepreneurship is. To start this, watch the below video to get a sense of what Session #1 as a whole involves
Main learning objectives:
- Create your own undrestanding of what sustainable entrepreneurship is (e.g., does a venture have to be co-accomplishing social, enviornmental, and financial goals?; does the social or environmental impact have to be purposeful?)
- Understand the links between entrepreneurship and the Sustainable Development Goals
- Assess the similarities and differences between sustainable and 'regular' entrepreneurship
- Analyze sustainable entrepreneurship as a process
Doing the pre-session preparation
Next, watch this short video about the format of the pre-session preparation.Just to emphasize a few key points about the pre-session preparation:
- What you'll see during preparation is a number of videos, some text, some articles to read, and some preparatory questions to answer.
- The preparation is structured using the 'quiz' format in MyCourses. You are NOT graded on this. Quizzes are simply the most versatile building block.
- The questions asked in the quiz are largely to help with your own learning; having to put together answers is a critical way of digesting and synthesizing learning.
Estimated Session time
Finally, here is how long I expect the different parts of the preparation to take (on average). For some of you this may be longer or shorter, depending on your background as well as on your learning style. However, use these as rough guidelines of where you should expect to put your effort. One piece of advice: you have one article in here, so make sure you don't get caught up in trying to remember all the little points in it. Instead, concentrate on the big picture; you should only every try to remember a handful of points from any given article.
I understand that this is a pretty lengthy pre-session preparation, but as we'll discuss later, my main goal is to push as much of the session material as early in the course as possible, so that you'll have time at the end of the course to focus on your projects (and on other courses)
