Futurism for Product Development Workshop
“We tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run” - Roy Charles Amara (1925 – 2007).
The Futurism Workshop will take place on the 28th and 29th of November. This voluntary workshop aims to introduce participants to the realm of critical thinking in design, speculative design and ideating for the future. During this workshop, we will explore the current trajectory of design towards technology, materials, sustainable futures and thinking, with the goal to challenge our assumptions about the future and envision our very own.
The workshop will be divided into two sessions over two consecutive days, along with a take-home exercise and a final assignment:
- Day one (28.11 9.00-12.00) will involve a lecture on Critical, Speculative and Discursive design along with an introduction to Futuring. There will be a small take-home exercise to prepare for the next day.
- Day two (29.11 13.00-16.00) delves deeper into futuring through a series of assignments in a workshop setting following Sitra’s Future Frequency module.
You will be required to work on and submit a final assignment where you will apply and reflect your learnings through your own PDP projects. The assignment will be revealed to you and elaborated on during the workshop.
This workshop will be held on-site at the Design Factory Stage and Studio. The workshop will be limited to 25 participants. Sign up below to reserve a spot.
Attendance for the two days and completion of the final assignment will grant you 1 credit.
