3D Printing Workshop
The voluntary one credit 3D-printing Workshop, taking place on 1st and 2nd December, will introduce participants to the design and use of digital fabrication methods at Design Factory's PrintShop. We will go over technical and feasibility considerations for 3D-printing and also offer guidance for making use of the lasercutter and vinyl cutter.
The workshop will be divided into 2 sessions on two consecutive days + a take-home exercise:
- 1st Day (Thursday, 1st December from 13:00 - 16:00 ) includes a demo of setting up a 3D-print and a hands-on walkthrough of printed objects that'll explain what to keep in mind when designing for 3D printing.
- 2nd Day (Wednesday 2nd December from 9:00 - 17:30 ) is for 30min meetings with each team in which we apply the possibilities and limitations of digital fabrication to your team's ideas. Please note the slots are limited to one booking per team. If there is more than one participant from each project team, one of the students should place the booking and show up in teams.
Lastly, the take-home exercise is for all the participants to design a 3D-printable or laser-cuttable file for their project. Only participants who submit this take-home exercise are entitled to the extra credit. At this point of the course, you might not yet know what you want to do in the end, but having even preliminary prototypes or some sort of concrete examples of the direction certainly helps the ideation.
On a final practical note for everyone: the 3D-printers, lasercutter, vinyl cutter and plotter printer at PrintShop are operated for you by the PrintShop staff (Erwin & Sushant). Don't worry though – this is just to keep the machines running and to better serve you guys!
