After the course the student masters basic knowledge of spatial audio.

Content (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Basics of room acoustics, room acoustic modeling, reverberation algorithms, spatial sound recording and reproduction, binaural audio.

Details on the course content (applies in this implementation): 

The course consists of 8 lectures given by the professors and post-docs working on acoustics and audio signal processing. In addition, there will be one lecture presenting the programming assignments.

The main work on the course are the assignments, consisting of one literature study, and a programming assignment(s). The assignments start by introducing the Unity game engine and learning how to use it. In the second phase simple spatial audio tasks will be implemented using Unity.

There will be no examination!

All the assignments will be graded, and the final grade of the course will be a linear combination of the assignment grades. The programming assignments are done as pair-works whereas the literature study is done individually.

Lectures/demonstrations 28 h (4 h / week). Independent work 10 h (reading of material special assignment(s)).

ELEC-E5600 Communication Acoustics, ELEC-E5610 Acoustics and Physics of Sound, CS-E5500 Acoustical Measurements or equal knowledge.
