Learning Outcomes (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

On completing the course, you will be able:

-        to talk in general about your dining habits and to manage in a restaurant using ordinary phrases

-        to talk about your typical days of work or study and about past events

-        to participate in quite simple conversations relating to course topics with a supporting partner and to express your opinions using common phrases

-        to ask road directions and understand straightforward responses

-        to understand and produce short written messages on work or study day situations using language tools.

-        You will know some of the main features of spoken Finnish

-        and know some Finnish customs related to the workday and to making visits.

Content (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

- Extension of the basic vocabulary (food, celebrations, asking and giving street directions, work, study, restaurants, travel, clothes).

- Increasing Finnish grammar comprehension (mass nouns and the partitive case, postpositions, objects, imperfect negative conjugation, ‘mennään’, the case government of common verbs).

- Familiarisation with key features of spoken Finnish.

- Simple conversational drills related to social life or to errands and transactions, especially in a work context.

Assessment Methods and Criteria (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Passing the course requires regular attendance (max. two absences allowed), active participation in class and completion of the given homework. Written examination. The weight given to the various assignments in the final evaluation is specified at the start of the course.

Teaching in group 24 hrs + independent work 30 hrs
