This is a course on authors and agents, on our ways and needs of building artistic authorship and artistic agencies. It is also about positions in life, art and philosophy. What is an author actually, or what do we mean with authorship (i.e. Marx is the author of The Capital, but he is also somehow the root for all Marxism)? How does one's position (e.g. white, middle aged, man, not from the middle class, immigrant background, bilingual, heterosexual) affect one's authorships and agencies? What is the discussion on the death of the author about? Should we take seriously the debate on 'intentional fallacy', i.e. the discussion which claims that we shouldn't be at all interested in artists' lives and intentions when we look at their art? What would authorship be without copyright? How do our ideas on authorship and genius affect people's behavior (Me Too)? What is the history of the concept of genius?
Assessment Methods and Criteria
Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:
Lectures & discussion (20%), exercises (5%), reading and doing individual work (75%). Requirement of all schedules activities a minimum of 80%.
