CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    The course is a pragmatic, hands-on writing group on which we practise our writing skills and written expression. At the same time, the class meetings provide an academic Agraphia group (Paul J. Silvia, 2007) that offers support for anyone struggling with their writing (writer’s block, procrastination, productivity issues, content management problems etc.).

    The course consists of weekly meetings (á 3 hours). We do writing exercises, get and give peer-feedback, analyse published text samples, and discuss our writing problems and goals. 

    The course has two separate language groups: Finnish and English.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    The grading scale is passed/failed. The completion of the course entails 5/7 presence at the classes. In case of more absence, compensating work is negotiated individually.

Workload

    The course yields 3 ETCS (80 h): 
    • 7 contact teaching à 3 hours = 21 h
    • n. 59 h individual work: writing, text analyses, critical reading; 7–9 hrs per week on average.

    Syksyn 2020 kurssissa on 6 tapaamista à 3 tuntia (yhteensä 18 h). Kotiläksyinä lisäksi jonkin verran valmistavaa lukemista, kirjoittamista, tekstiarviointia ja omaehtoista aineiston hankintaa yhteensä noin 62 h (≈ 10 h / vk).

    In autumn 2020, the course will have 6 sessions à 3 hours (total 18 hrs). In addition, the course entails some individual homework as preparatory reading, writing, reviewing and independent material acquisition circa 62 hrs in total (≈10 hrs/week).
