CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    On the course, we discuss the theoretical basis and professional practices of documentary photography. Students develop, edit, and present their own projects. Visiting lecturers open up their work processes. We also look at different documentary approaches and vantage points and the various forms of photographer's work in the changing fields of media and contemporary art.

    (All meetings are online on Zoom if not agreed differently. There may be individual f2f live meetings if that is possible considering equal possibilities for all students.)

    The online course meetings comprise of lectures and discussions with Hanna Weselius and visiting teachers. Students make individual and group assignments and presentations. A pre-assignment will be given a week before the course starts. There will be 4–5 assignments altogether on the course.

    On this year's course, we circle around the current lockdown situation using media materials and essay methodology.

    On the last week of the course, Rebecca Simons (NL) will give a 2-day online mini-workshop with portfolio reviews and individual tutoring.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    Course evaluation: pass/fail. Passing the course requires at least 80% active participation in lectures and other classroom teaching/groupwork, as well as producing an own documentary project. 

Workload
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    The course consists of lectures, classroom teaching and working on a personal documentary photography project. The course comprises of course meetings (ca. 35 hours) and individual work including feedback (altogether 162 hours = 6 ECTS).

    Course days are Mon, Tue and Fri, and the scheduled days include contact teaching and time for individual work.
