LEARNING OUTCOMES

After completing the course, the student is able to describe typical phases of a project and use common project management tools and methods. Further, the student knows the benefits of project planning, is able to create a project plan and is able to identify risks and make a mitigation plan.

After completing the course, the student has an experience of completing a real project. Student can work in a group, has experience of reaching intermediate timeline milestones, is able to explain quality requirements of in-project deliverables, and is able to communicate within project team as well as with external stakeholders. The student is also able to evaluate the outcome of the project and knows how to write a final report.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    Introduction to common project management tools, introduction to project management methods, risk management, resourcing, standardization and standards, product development process.

    Student groups will plan and realize a real project work assigned by the teachers and researchers of the department. The final outcome of the project will be reported to the stakeholders.

  • Applies in this implementation:

    Lectures, seminars and the final gala are common events intended for all students. At first, the lectures deal with project planning and management related to the project work. Later, the lectures deal with topics related to the business aspects exercise.   

    Students will be assigned to Project groups of typically four to five students. Each project group will get a project topic from a research group in EEA department. The projects are related to research or education activities of the department.  A project group will have an instructor, who is a professor, a lecturer, a post-doc or a post-graduate student from the department.

    Each project group will make a Project plan which, for example, describes the goals of the project, defines various roles in the project and sets milestones. After the projects have been completed, the project outcomes will be presented in the final gala and a project report will be submitted.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    Lectures, exercises, group exercises, homework. Working in a project, completing the project, self-assessment, peer-review.

  • Applies in this implementation:

    The evaluation is based on the project work. Even though the project work is a group assignment, the students will receive individual grades. The methods for the evaluation are self-assessment, peer-evaluation within a project group and teacher (=instructor) assessment. The evaluation will done twice, intermediate evaluation in the half-way of the semester and final evaluation at the end of the course.
