CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

In this course students explore pedagogical arts-based practices theoretically and through a personal art pedagogical project proposal. During the course, the concepts of art pedagogy, community art and education are re-thought and debated in international and contemporary context.

The course offers students ideas of different methods and practices on how to work with individuals, groups of people, and communities, particularly in informal and non-formal environments. Pedagogical principles are thoroughly discussed, aiming to ensure the students in this course would be able to make ethical, responsible and respectful decisions when working in art educational and community art approaches in varied contexts with individuals, groups and communities.

This course explores the different approaches and theories of contemporary international art educational approaches. Bringing together the international group of students with their diversified cultural experiences, the cultural and societal diversities are discussed through critical and contemporary art education readings, conversations in small groups, and by preparing small presentations, and by producing written and visual works.

The course is useful for all students, who want to engage art and pedagogical practices, such as art education, NoVA, and ViCCA students. Students from other fields, who are interested in developing their community art education knowledge and skills are also welcomed.
