Please note! Course description is confirmed for two academic years, which means that in general, e.g. Learning outcomes, assessment methods and key content stays unchanged. However, via course syllabus, it is possible to specify or change the course execution in each realization of the course, such as how the contact sessions are organized, assessment methods weighted or materials used.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The goal of this course is to make students get familiar with basic kinetic/robotic movement with hands-on practices and be able to apply what they have learned to their own art and design projects.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

This course will deal with kinetic/robotic movement from a perspective art and design particularly focusing on linkage-based mechanism. This course will benefit art and design students by lowering the barrier to kinetic/robotic design; science and engineering students by providing opportunities to explore technologies from a creative perspective. The course will be structured as below:

    1. Introduction to kinetic/robotic movement in art and design.
    2. Design with movements: tools and project examples
    3. Basics of movement: learning basic linkage-based mechanisms.
    4. Project development: a gateway to student's own project development
    5. Going further: advanced applications of the linkage-related movement in architecture, fashion, product design and art
    6. Tutoring
    7. Wrapping up (Exhibition opening)

  • Applies in this implementation:

    * Because of the pandemic situation and remote online teaching thereof, the final exhibition will be replaced by an online presentation of final projects.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

Attendance 20%, documentation of the project 30%, final work 50%
