CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    Special course whose topic changes yearly; given possibly by a guest lecturer.

  • Applies in this implementation:

    The course will assess the scientific foundations of climate change, its effects, mitigation and adaptation to the change. During the course students will reflect how climate change is related to their own field of study, and how everyone can be part of the transformation to sustainable, low-carbon society. 

    All Aalto students, despite the field of study, from candidate level to doctoral students are welcome to the course.

    The course can be taken as smaller 3 ECTS-credit course (lectures, independent study, small group work) or as full 5 ECTS-credit course (3 cr course requirements + group project work). 

    Study material: "Climate.Now" learning material (developed by Climate University).

    Work methods: Online lectures, self-study of the online material, group work in multidisciplinary teams, online simulator exercise (En-Roads), project work (only 5 cr course).

    Course language: Learning diary and other assignments can be written either in Finnish or English, according to student's own choice. The course communication language is English.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Evaluation is based on:

     

    • 3 ECTS course: the submitted assignments on the MyCourses platform (75 %) and En-Roads Assignment made in groups (25 %).
    • 5 ECTS course: the submitted assignments on the MyCourses platform (50 %), En-Roads Assignment (25 %), and the group project work (25 %).
    • Assignments on the MyCourses course platform include multiple choice questions, small assignments and reflective learning diary writing tasks.

  • Applies in this implementation:

    Climate.now material (developed by Climate University). Available both in Finnish and English.  www.climatenow.fi 

     

    We are using the Climate.now / Ilmasto.nyt material, the original version being located at the University of Helsinki MOOC website: https://mooc.helsinki.fi/course/view.php?id6 (freely accessible with HAKA login or as guest access).

    For this year's course (2021) the material is transferred to Aalto's MyCourses platform. In this way, Aalto students don't need to move between two different platforms.
