Content

The beam in tension, torsion and bending. The differential equations and the corresponding variational formulations. The finite element method. The basic (a priori) error estimate and the tools needed for that (the Schwarz and Poincare inequalities). Adaptive methods for mesh refinement. Th so-called a posteriori estimate and the tool needed, i.e. Sobolev s inequality.
