CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The course gives an overview of chemical safety (MSDS, warning symbols, etc.) and waste management in CHEM labrotories. Also, basic level of first-aid after typical laboratory accidents is discussed.

    This is a course of the very basic laboratory safety. Topics include

    • warning symbols and MSDS
    • personal protection equipment: lab coat, glasses, different types of gloves, fume hood
    • what to do in case of accident (eye washing stations, emergency showers, fire distinguisher, absorbing chemical spills )
    • safety issues when working with hot or cold objects, bunsen burner, powders, gases, glassware  etc.
    • waste handling

    In order to pass the course:

    • - you need to visit the virtual laboratory and pass the digital exam with min. 65 %

    The information about who have passed the course will be sent to Study Register after the first week of each study period. If you need this information earlier (to enter the labs), you can show from MyCourses that you have passed the course for the teacher of the lab course. 

    NOTE! This course is only for students and meant for entering courses which include the labs.
