CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

The Polymers in medical technology course will teach students everything they need to know about the demands on, and applications of, medical biopolymers.

Students will learn the basic principles of the structure-property relationships, regulatory demands and biological aspects required for the use of polymers in medical technologies. In addition, the course will teach how these requirements influence applying the polymers in a wide range of applications including drug delivery systems, tissue engineering scaffolds and other biomedical devices.

There will be 4 main introduction subjects:

    • Systematic introduction into polymer biomaterials
    • Basics in polymer drug delivery systems
    • Basics in polymer scaffolds for tissue engineering
    • Polymers used in biomedical devices

Following the introductory lectures, visiting researchers will present current state-of-art research topics within the field. Subject for these topics may, among others, include lectures on:

    • Controlled and sustained drug delivery systems
    • Smart polymers
    • Scaffolds for tissue engineering.

The course will include the writing of a paper. For this purpose we will make a list with current topics of interest in the field of polymers in medical technology. The students can then chose a topic from this list.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Examination, written scientific review.

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Lectures, paper writing, self study.
