After the course students are able to:

(1) Understand the principles of Accounting Information System (AIS) and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP), including documentation, change planning and implementation

(2) Understand and apply hands on data analysis (using databases, SQL, and advanced excel techniques) for accounting and controlling purposes

(3) Analyze key AIS/ERP risks (e.g., fraud)

(4) Apply internal control and risk management strategies/frameworks

Content

    The course covers understanding of Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems along with documentation, change planning, and implementation of AIS/ERPs. Students learn about risk management, fraud detection and internal control approaches suited for digitalized business environments. Furthermore, students learn about backend databases, use of SQL for fetching data and application of advanced excel techniques suited for accounting and controlling purposes.

    INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENTS: Hands-On Practice assignments - SQL, Excel, Database (Individual) (20%); Individual Case Assignment Applying SQL, Excel, and Databse knowledge (Individual) (20%)

    GROUP ASSIGNMENTS: Group Case assignments - Fraud, Risk Management, Internal Control (Group) (30%)

    EXAM (individual) (30%)

    Individual and Group Assignments (50% out of 70 points), Exam (50% out of 30 points), Overall (50% out of 100 points)
