CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The course consists of lectures, small-group discussions, film viewings, visits and other relevant activities. Lectures will introduce the subject, discussions and small-group work will widen it. In order to be able to understand the lecture and to participate in discussions, the students will

    • Read texts before each class
    • Find relevant examples pertaining to each theme and bring them to class
    • Prepare 1 3 comments on the most important points of each theme based on the read texts and bring them to class

    PASSING THE COURSE

    To complete the 3 credit course the students will:

    • Read assigned texts
    • Find relevant examples on the themes discussed in class
    • Participate actively in class-room discussions
    • Write a reflective learning diary OR design a poster on a selected topic

    DISCUSSIONS DURING CLASS

    The course consists of lectures and seminar discussions. During lectures the students will be introduced to the theme of each class. After lectures, students are divided into small-groups and expected to discuss texts and their main points. After small-group discussions, each group presents their main points to the whole class. In order to be able to participate in the discussion, the students are expected to read texts before each class. Students who fail to participate in lectures and discussions will not be able to complete the course. Some lectures may be replaced by visits to relevant sites (such as exhibitions) or are accompanied by film viewings that pertain to the topic.

    The course will be organized in two formats. The student will choose one or the other:

    1. Contact teaching (max. 30 students)

    2. Web-course (no limitation for the maximum amount of students)

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    80 h (3 cr)

    • Lectures, seminars, visits and film viewings: 20 h
    • Personal learning time (assigned for reading & reflecting the course materials): 30 h
    • Assignment: writing a reflective learning diary OR making a poster presentation: 30 h
