LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students will also acquire:
a) Basic academic research writing skills needed for scholarly work in visual culture, curating and contemporary art.
b) An introduction to a wide variety of experimental academic writing possibilities
c) Support for students who are attempting to articulate the research dimensions of their practice (and how references and theory might talk to these attempts).
d) Assistance in the development of modes of writing about, through and as art practice.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The course provides a basic understanding of what research might be in the context of the ViCCA MA, through introducing a diverse series of research and writing methods that are attuned to visual culture, curating and contemporary art practices.

    The course provides introductory exposure to academic, theoretically-informed and experimental writing approaches and how these might be combined.

    The course includes lectures, readings, discussions and critical and experimental writing assignments where students are encouraged to focus on subject matter pertaining to their thesis research, their current practice, and/or course interests.

    80% presence.  Assignments completed by end of the course.
