LEARNING OUTCOMES

The student has a high-level understanding of the scale, scope, and speed of the disruption and destruction that digitalization is having on firms, industries and societies, and technological enablers that are driving the change. Further, the student can describe the changes that digitalization brings at the level of industry structures and power, market dynamics and value chains. The student is also able to describe the main characteristics of (multisided) platforms and platform economy, why platform economy is different to traditional business, and the significance on platforms for the economy at large.

    Enablers of digitalization, convergence, commoditization, consumerization (of IT), democratization, disaggregation, disintermediation, power of digital aggregators and intermediators, specialization, lowering entry barriers, servitization, datafication, mobility, social media. Platforms, platform economy, network effects, boundary resources and how they are used, governance of platforms, digital boost to platforms.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    • Assessment is based on online quizzes and workshops that are evaluated using peer-review. Workshop peer-reviews are also assessed.
      • Final grade (0-5) is based on total points with the following weighting:
        • Quizzes: 20%
        • Workshop 2: 20%
        • Workshop 3: 20%
        • Workshop 4: 20%
        • Peer-reviews for workshops 2, 3, and 4: 20% 
      • In order to pass the course, student has to complete all quizzes, workshops, and peer-reviews in due time (please refer to course schedule below)
      • Additionally, Workshop 1 & Feedback survey are compulsory for passing the course
