Please note! Course description is confirmed for two academic years, which means that in general, e.g. Learning outcomes, assessment methods and key content stays unchanged. However, via course syllabus, it is possible to specify or change the course execution in each realization of the course, such as how the contact sessions are organized, assessment methods weighted or materials used.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the course, the student:

  • Understands basic principles of flexible pavement design and construction.
  • Is able to analyse pavement failures and suggest remedial solutions.
  • Is familiar with the concept of multi-layered elastic analysis and empirical design methods and can apply knowledge by performing basic pavement thickness designs.
  • Is familiar with pavement structural and functional distresses and recognizes their formation mechanisms.
  • Is able to do basic laboratory tests and data analysis (e.g. determination of particle size distribution by dry/wet sieving and hydrometer methods; Proctor test to determine optimum water content; Loadman test).
  • Is able to discuss professionally with peers/clients on pavement design/materials and road construction issues.
