LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides the students a concise understanding of the contemporary furniture design practice in relation to the state of emerging production technologies and processes. 

Students will learn the critical parameters of furniture manufacturing. The objective is to examine how material performances can be appropriated in connection to technical, formal and manufacturing aspects of a product.

During the course students will learn the advantages and limitations associated with mass production processes interrelated to the nature of furniture industry.

Content

    The course introduces a design approach that ties the design- process and thinking closer to the operational side of furniture manufacturing. Students will learn the vocabulary related to advanced manufacturing and material engineering basics.   

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Participation in lectures, briefing, group working, tutoring sessions, project/practical assignment and presentation of the results. Students are expected to document their working process and research.
