LEARNING OUTCOMES
After the course, the student will be able to:
- derive the equation of motion for vibrating systems with one or two degrees-of-freedom;
- solve the equation of motion for undamped and damped systems under free or forced vibration;
- compute the natural frequencies and mode shapes of systems with multiple degrees-of-freedom;
- use the theory of vibration to solve design problems.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD
Content
valid for whole curriculum period:
The course will start by presenting the equation of motion and solution for an undamped system, with one degree-of-freedom, that is freely vibrating. Next, damped systems and the case of forced vibration will be introduced. The theory will be used to study a few common design problems, such as vibration of rotating systems. Finally, these theoretical concepts will be extended to systems with multiple degrees-of-freedom.
Assessment Methods and Criteria
valid for whole curriculum period:
Assignments and exam.
Workload
valid for whole curriculum period:
Lectures: 24h
Exercises: 12h
Independent work: 93h
