After completing the course, students are able to
Develop and execute suitable designerly strategies for different design objectives, with focus on conceptual design.

Content

During the course, the students will constructively develop their understanding of design as an activity, based on, and focusing on the following concepts and skills: Creativity and design; Concept creation and emergence; Development of design expertise Practical skills for creating representations of design contents in topical field; Role of research in concept creation; Concept validation.

Study Material

The course materials include reading materials, primarily research articles. No need to buy books for mandatory readings. The materials and lecture notes are included before or right after each lecture. The student may need to arrange some prototyping materials themself, albeit there is a small budget for each team.

The course builds for the period IV course From Concepts to Designs (FCtD), where the students continue the work iniiated during this course. The project part of this course will lead to unfinished concept and the students are highly recommended to consider also participating the period IV FCtD course to stock their portfolios with more finisihed material.

The course schedule is available for admitted students in a separate Google sheet during the course. The Monday and Friday mornings are primarily lectures. On Tuesdays, there is a mandatory tutoring session for each team, lasting approximately an hour. The work will require significant team working time as well, outside these times.
