LEARNING OUTCOMES

After successful completion of the course, student is able to:

- Design a collection of digitally and screen printed fabrics based on visual research and individual artistic expression

- Document the techniques and materials used in the collection.

- Summarize the principles of reactive and pigment dyes, and their relation to textile raw materials, especially cellulose materials

- Describe the basic principles of responsible production of printed fabrics and memorize safe and sustainable working methods in the printing workshop.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    On the course, students are introduced to the principles of most commonly used textile dyes and printing and dyeing methods - reactive and pigment dyes and exhaust dyeing and screen and digital printing. Learning activities in the course include lectures, design of printed fabrics and realization of designs in printing workshop, individual and group tutoring, documentation of the processes and methods used and final critics session. Design assignment: collection of printed fabrics using the methods learned during the course and including product cards.

    The final grade for the course is based on student’s attendance and participation in the contact teaching and the assignments that the students complete during the course.  Introductory session is mandatory.

    Overall workload (3 cr) = 81 h. Minimum 80% attendance in contact teaching is mandatory.

    For FaCT students the course is recommended to be taken in the 1st study year as part of the Experimental Textile Design or Innovative Fashion Design course. The course is included in the Textiles - Material and Structure minor.
