Students will be able to recognize main issues of the theory and history of documentary film.  

Students will be able to critically examine some of the traditions, concepts, authors or debates of documentary filmmaking from an historical and theoretical perspective.

Students will be able to discuss the relevance of the course content to their own artistic practice and research.

    The course will explore different aspects of documentary film history and theory, critically examining traditions, concepts or authors from a theoretical and historical perspective. The course might focus on historical periods, artistic movements, authors or theoretical concepts in documentary film.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Students will be required to research, read and summarize literature on documentary history and theory. Completing the course involves students active participation in class and the completion of a written assignment or oral presentation.
