LEARNING OUTCOMES

After this course students will be able to:

  • Understand a business’ fundamentals by applying ratio analysis and valuation frameworks
  • Apply different performance management frameworks for strategy implementation and organizational alignment
  • Implement strategic management accounting tools for profitable decision-making through product/service mix, customer mix and project choice (i.e., capital budgeting)

During the course students will develop several soft skills around group work, problem-solving, and presentation.

Content

    This course will go over essential theories, concepts and tools of financial management and covers the issues from three angles. The first part of the course focuses on understanding a business’ fundamentals from the perspective of ratio analysis and firm valuation and firm value drivers. The second part will develop the concept of performance management frameworks that organizations use to implement strategy and align the organization. The third part of the course introduces specific strategic management accounting tools for profitable decisions making including tools to make product and customer mix decisions as well as concepts around capital budgeting decisions.
