LEARNING OUTCOMES

Through short creative projects, the student will become familiar with moldmaking and casting techniques, and understand which types of form can be reproduced with different casting materials and techniques.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    The course concentrates on mold making techniques, as well as mold and casting materials.
    Students learn to make molds using a variety of materials and forms, learn one-piece and multi-piece moldmaking, and to perceive which mold and casting material is most suitable for which purpose.
    Depending on the student's project, the following mold techniques are studied
    Single and multiple-use molds from plaster
    Soft molds from silicon
    Alginate mold
    Casting materials such as plaster, concrete, wax, resin and acrylic resin are investigated. In addition two days will be spent working in the glass studios.

    There will be exhibition in the end of the course that will showcase the artworks created during the course.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Individual and small group discussion and critique. Active participation in classwork. Successful completion of own project.

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    3 weeks of very intensive course + exhibition building / critique on 4th week. Student is expected to be present during all contact teaching days, as well as complete self-directed tasks.
