LEARNING OUTCOMES

The student understands the advantages, limitations and usefulness of different recording techniques, microphones, and recording formats for the various uses in film sound. The student can choose a necessary and practical recording technology and equipment and can record technically high-quality audio with it. The student can evaluate and analyse what they are recording by listening. The student can archive and sort their recordings and build their sound effects archive.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Basics of sound effects recording, microphone selection, recording formats, and managing and archiving the sound effect recordings. The student discovers how to record hard effects and atmospheres in field conditions and explores the differences between microphone selection and recording techniques, and their relationship to the selected visual material.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Participation in contact teaching, completed assignments and completing a reflection exercise related to one's learning.

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Contact teaching 40 h, independent work 41 h.

    At least 80% participation in face-to-face teaching is mandatory to complete the course. If, due to absences, the student does not achieve the learning outcomes defined in the course description, the remaining 20% may have to be compensated as determined by the responsible teachers of the course.

    All absences must be reported to the teachers in charge. The responsible teachers of the course will specify the necessary compensating assignments.
