    Susan Marshall Insubordinate Costume Workshop

Modular costumes can be constructed, deconstructed, reconstructed in numerous different combinations and variations, constantly recycled and recyclable. The modular pieces connect to each other and to the body in movement in a collaborative synergy which is both visual and sensorial. Modules, which can be joined in different ways to create different three-dimensional shapes, are potentials which can act as an impetus to creativity, theatre making and dramaturgy, whilst their recyclable nature remains an ethical choice.

As an introduction to the workshop on the first day, students will be invited to play, experiment and create costumes using a selection of Susan Marshall’s Insubordinate Costume modules. Following this, students will explore and work on the idea of modular costume from their own perspective. On Friday afternoon students will present their final projects with a performative presentation (dance, text-based or performance art etc) inspired by the costume.

    Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the workshop, students will understand the dynamic and varied possibilities of modular costumes within the performing arts.
