LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students understand the aims of movement-based, collegial artistic processes and are able to function creatively, methodically and responsibly in an artistic work group. Students understand the special characteristics and possibilities of each art form in a multidisciplinary process and are able to develop their own artistic work in a constructive and interactive collaboration with students and work groups of other artistic disciplines. They understand the dynamics of the artistic process, its different stages and how a work of art is formed. They are able to comprehend all the different facets of an artistic work as well as the content, production and institutional environment it has been created in. Students are able to constructively reflect on both their shared artistic process and their own artistic work.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    Students work primarily within the current framework of contemporary dance and performance, in multidisciplinary artistic work groups and within the scope of the resources offered by the Theatre Academy and Aalto University. By the end of the course, the artistic projects of the work groups are presented during a joint evening event, the implementation of which is the responsibility of the work groups and students.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Active participation in personal meetings with project advisors, contribution to group work, process guidance and evaluations, brainstorming meetings, concept presentations. Assessment is based on the process of pre-production, production, performance and post-production, including critical reflection.

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Lectures, presentations and discussion 54 hours, group work, independent work and reflection 216 hours.

    At least 80% participation in face-to-face teaching is mandatory to complete the course. If, due to absences, the student does not achieve the learning outcomes defined in the course description, the remaining 20% may have to be compensated as determined by the responsible teachers of the course.

    All absences must be reported to the teachers in charge. The responsible teachers of the course will specify the necessary compensating assignments.

    Maximum number of students 6, minimum 2.

    This study unit forms part of the curricula of the degree programmes in Choreography and Lighting Design and Sound Design and Scenography at the Theatre Academy and the Costume Design major at Aalto University, as well as the 3rd year students of the BA programme in Dance at the Theatre Academy.

    Facility and support service resources are determined in the instructions for performance facility and support service resourcing of the Theatre Academy. During this course, students participate in an introductory session by production services and technical production services, introducing students to production processes and responsibilities and technical implementation.
