Content

The full course consists of a one-week workshop and a part with visiting lecturers. It covers the bases of theory and methods of game design and includes practical design exercises. In the workshop, the nature of games and game design is discussed, as well as meaningful decisions and balance of chance and skill. Board game design exercises bring a hands-on aspect to the course. In the visiting lecturers part, different subthemes inside game design are covered by visiting speakers, like prototyping, level design, narrative design, UX design and mobile game design.
Assessment Methods and Criteria

Depends on which part of the course the student completes. In the lecture part, the evaluation is based on the quality of the written lecture reflections. Also to pass, participation in teaching, completed assignments. Minimum 80% attendance.

The Game Design course consists of two parts - a one-week workshop (that may happen even many times a year) and a series of lectures by industry visitors. If you do one part, you get 3 credits, if you do both, you get 6 credits. Game majors and minors should finish both parts, others can also only take one or the other.
