  • recognize the most common textile and clothing materials, their production methods, origins and properties
  • understand the meaning of material selection in textile and clothing design
  • explain the most important ecological aspects in textile and clothing production

Content

    This is an introductionary course into textile materials, and does not require previous knowledge. The course consists of online lectures and assignments focusing on textile and clothing materials, their raw materials and production processes, textile standards, material care, material selection for various applications, and sustanable development principles in the field of textile and clothing. The course includes cumpulsory joint sessions in the beginning and in the end. Textile and Clothing Materials course is an elective course in MA level ARTS2056 Minor in Textiles - Material and Structure and in Sustainable Fashion and Textile Management Minor by BIZ, and open to other Aalto University students and exchange students.

         

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Participation in joint sessions, completion of study assignments.

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    After a joint kick-off session, students follow lectures online and complete assignments independently according to given guidelines. The course ends with a joint discussion.
