LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students should be able to: 

- apply a basic human-centred design approach in the early phases of digital service development.
- recognize foundational programming principles in software development.
- develop a high-fidelity software prototype for a digital service application, including both back-end and front-end components.
- evaluate the usability of a software application with potential users.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    In this course, students are introduced to the basics of human-centred design in digital service development. Students execute a small design project for a digital service in which they design and prototype both the front-end and back-end of a software application. The projects are executed in small groups and cover the design of a software prototype - including its interfaces and functional implementation – which students evaluate with potential users. The course and project are structured around assignments, lectures, in-class discussions and tutorials. 

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    The final grade for the course is based on a written exam as well as the design project and a series of assignments that the students execute throughout the course. 

Workload

    • The total workload for the course amounts to 162 hours (1 ECTS credit = 27 hours).
    • - Contact teaching (including exam and final presentation) 105 hours
    • - Project and individual work in pairs 40 hours
    • - Personal reflection 16 hours
    • - Giving course feedback 1 hour
