Please note! Course description is confirmed for two academic years, which means that in general, e.g. Learning outcomes, assessment methods and key content stays unchanged. However, via course syllabus, it is possible to specify or change the course execution in each realization of the course, such as how the contact sessions are organized, assessment methods weighted or materials used.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Introduction to the approximate methods for initial and boundary value problems in solid mechanics. After the course, student understands the physical background of the bar and the membrane model problems, knows the basic ideas of finite difference and finite element methods, is able to apply the methods to the bar model problem (1D), and knows the extensions to the membrane model problem of solid mechanics (2D).
