LEARNING OUTCOMES

After successful completion of the course, the student is able to:

  1. reconsider conventional approaches to fashion design and define alternative paths, especially in shaping and structuring of garments as a form of expression;
  2. identify aesthetic approaches, benefitting from emerging technologies and material engagement;
  3. integrate strategic experimentation and advanced prototyping methods in the design process;
  4. develop contextual and critical thinking, considering decision-making in the creative design process.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The course includes a design project, lectures, workshops, individual and peer-support tutoring sessions and feedback sessions. Students have the possibility to direct the specialization of their own project through combined studio courses. The course introduces students to methods of innovative garment shaping and advanced 3D experimentation. Students are challenged to reconsider the shaping and structuring of garments and to develop an alternative approach as a base for their design projects. Through peer discussions and presentations, students develop their ability to discuss the contextualization and impact of their proposed design work.

    The scope of the course is 12 cr, which can include MUO-E1082 Textile Colouration Finishes Studio (3cr) or MUO-E1069 Knits and Knitwear studio (6cr), based on student's Personal Study Plan approved by the academic advisor. After the approval student should register to the studio course separately. With integrated studio courses, the scope of the core course can be 6, 9 or 12 cr.
