This course will introduce students to essential tools, material properties and techniques of working with wood through hands on exercises.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The course is based on hands-on assignments that introduce students to tools and techniques used to craft wood as well as the various species and wood-based materials that are used in construction. Tasks vary from small studies of surfaces and finishing to full scale joints and structural frames. Tasks are completed individually and in small groups. 

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    - precision and craft of execution

    - timetable planning and execution

    - personal development and growth

    - innovative and experimental use of materials and methods

Workload

    6 hrs - Introduction to workshop machines and safety procedures

    104 hrs - Individual analysis, design and fabrication work

    28 hrs - Tutoring 

    12 hrs - Students' presentations 

    12 hrs - Reviews

Study Material

    The course requires crafting and fabrication of wood materials at full scale. Students are provided with all necessary materials and tools in the workshop.
