Upon completion of the course, students are able to:

  • Identify ideas related to design in live and mediated performance, its meanings, role and functions.
  • Develop discussions on various aspects of performing and screen arts design, and related areas.
  • Explore practices, methods and processes related to design for live/screen/media-based performance and related areas by different scholars and creative professionals.
  • Analyze a work of performance, film or media from a design perspective.

Content

    The Scenography, Production and Costume Design Lectures address the theory and practice of design for the performing and screen arts and related areas through encounters with different aspects of design for live and screen/media performance, and with the work and ideas of various professionals. The lectures stimulate critical and analytical thinking on design, culture and performance through the presentation of case studies, comparative studies, artistic work, technical aspects or theoretical concepts. The course is based on presentations by, and discussions with, invited scholars and design professionals from various fields of performance, film, media and design. The lectures include visual and audio-visual materials or other samples of work.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Students' attendance, motivation and active participation in discussions. Outcome of independent work, if undertaken.

    Credits:

    Attendance to four (4) lectures gives 1 credit (ECTS). The students are free to attend as many lectures as they wish.
