LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students will deepen their knowledge about technical equipment and how to adapt it to different filming circumstances and needs for documentary filmmaking. Students will also improve their skills for understanding the relationship between technical solutions and artistic needs / decisions.  Students will also deepen their skills in dynamic group working methods, scheduling, demanding working conditions.

In this workshop students will gain / learn to

  • ability to analyse working method’s effect to cinematic expression.
  • how to apply different document film making methods to be able to work in demanding and varying working conditions during document film processes.
  • evaluate and develop their group working skills.
  • understand the essence of pre-planning and equipment choices to artistic outcome.
  • create demanded content in challenging production circumstances.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    Students will work / became familiar with different camera-, grip- and lighting equipment solutions and different filming methods of documentary films during lectures and quick hands-on rehearsals.

    Students will execute short exercises in small groups.

    All material will be screened and evaluated together with students and teachers.

    This workshop can also be used for developing students upcoming MA-document film as a part of the pre-production.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Active and regular participation to working and lectures, accomplishment of given tasks and self-reflection about the learning process during the workshop.

    Evaluation criteria based on student’s own group work and reflection about their own learning process. Student’s own progress evaluated in common feed-back session at the end of the workshop where final presentations will be presented to teachers and other students.

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    At least 80% participation in face-to-face teaching is mandatory to complete the course. If, due to absences, the student does not achieve the learning outcomes defined in the course description, the remaining 20% may have to be compensated as determined by the responsible teachers of the course. All absences must be reported to the teachers in charge. The responsible teachers of the course will specify the necessary compensating assignments.

    Participating at the opening day of the workshop is mandatory.
