LEARNING OUTCOMES

Through a creative project, the student will become familiar with construction techniques using wood, metal, and other materials. The student will be confident in using wood working and metal working machines.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    Students will be introduced to wood materials, hand tools and wood working machines, and shown how to use them safely. Students will be introduced to metal working, in particular construction techniques using welding and other power tools and methods. Students will create a sculpture combining wood, metal and other materials using construction techniques.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Individual and small group discussion and critique. Active participation in classwork. Successful completion of own project.

Workload

    3 weeks intensive course. Working on site. Students are expected to be present during all contact teaching (105 hrs), as well as to work independently (15 hrs). Thime to think is 42 h.

    Registration:

    Minimum amount of participants is 8 students. Maximum amount of participants is 20 students.

    Priority order to courses is according to the order of priority decided by the Academic committee for School of Arts, Design and Architecture https//www.aalto.fi/en/services/registering-to-courses-and-the-order-of-priority-in-aalto-arts. 

    After the registration has closed, SISU conducts a raffle to allocate all the seats while considering the possible prioritisation order stated above. If there are more registrants than available seats, ten (10) students from the remaining applicants are drawn and placed on a waiting list in numerical order. On the first day of the course, these students may check for available seats in case of no-shows. Any available seats are then filled in numerical order. Students on the waiting list will receive an email containing details about the registration status, once the registration period has closed.
