Participants will deepen their understanding of group work and their own role in professional film production process. Students will expand their knowledge about the breakdown process of long feature- or document film, or work with their own MA-film development process.

  • Understand and apply the process of each film department’s own and common breakdown processes.
  • Understand and apply traditional methods of film process handling.
  • Apply and analyse given working method examples to support collaboration among head of departments in different stages of film project.
  • Ability to evaluate process management and the effect of that to creative work.
  • Evaluate and create different working methods for general and own process management.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    During the workshop students will work with their current ma-film project or given long feature- / document film’s script and prepare their own breakdown and presentations, production packages, that will be displayed at the final day of the workshop.

    Students will work as of head of department roles, exploring their own role related to responsibilities, duties, management, leadership, in international co-productions / in their current ma-film project. Course is aimed to highlight the essence of handling project management and ability to analyse how it effects to creative work.

    Lecturers will show examples of different professional’s approaches to the breakdowns and collaboration throughout all film production phases. All stages of a breakdown process will be analysed critically and according to their effect on the content and quality of the produced film. In this workshop students will apply knowledge about international co-productions and co-financed productions, distribution, and marketing.

    In addition to these, during this workshop both the lecturers and students are aiming to develop and find new possible pre-production and working methods and possibilities.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Active and regular participation to working and lectures, accomplishment of given tasks and self-reflection about the learning process during the workshop.

    Evaluation criteria based on student’s own group work and reflection about their own learning process. Student’s own progress evaluated in common feed-back session at the end of the workshop where final presentations will be presented to teachers and other students.

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    At least 80% participation in face-to-face teaching is mandatory to complete the course. If, due to absences, the student does not achieve the learning outcomes defined in the course description, the remaining 20% may have to be compensated as determined by the responsible teachers of the course. All absences must be reported to the teachers in charge. The responsible teachers of the course will specify the necessary compensating assignments.

    Participating at the opening day of the workshop is mandatory.

    Course material will be delivered at the beginning of the course. Student crews that are prepping their own current ma-film project may use their own materials (script & breakdowns) to develop their ma-film production process.
