Content

    This course provides the theoretical background and basic practical skills required for working in a bioscience laboratory. Topics will cover:

    - use of aseptic technique in the laboratory

    - culturing pro- and eukaryotic cells

    - working with DNA (e.g. PCR, molecular cloning, expression)

    - working with proteins (e.g. ELISA, SDS-PAGE)

    Registration:

    Max. 20 students. Students in the master's programme in Biotechnology and the Biotechnology major of the master's programme in Chemical, Biochemical and Materials Engineering are prioritized. If more than 20 students enroll, all the students in the master's programme in Biotechnology and the Biotechnology major of the master's programme in Chemical, Biochemical and Materials Engineering are accepted, if enrolled in time. If there is space, other students (Aalto degree students and exchange students) with sufficient background can be accepted to the course.

    A course implementation may be cancelled if the number of students enrolled to the course implementation does not meet the required minimum of five students. In the case of cancelled course implementations, the students enrolled to them must be provided with an alternative way of completing the course or be advised to take some other applicable course.
